Tamborine Mountain National ParkTamborine Mountain is a fabulous national park with lovely walks and beautiful scenery and pretty, if a bit touristy, townships. The Tamborine Mountain Visitor Information Centre can be found in North Tamborine and is open from 10.30am till 3.30pm daily. The people there are extremely friendly and helpful and can give you plenty of information about accommodation in each of the townships which are Mount Tamborine, North Tamborine and Eagle Heights and things to do in the area. Mount Tamborine is the smallest and least touristy of the townships but the Mount Tamborine Motel has great views all the way down to the Gold Coast as does the St Bernards Hotel next door. The motel is a good place to base yourselves for a weekend and it has a pool and a tennis court. The Hotel has a bar, a restaurant, plenty of outdoor seating and a lovely garden and it also has a resident St Bernard dog who is absolutely gorgeous and friendly. There is little else in Mount Tamborine apart from one art gallery and one cafe. North Tamborine is 8km further on up from Mount Tamborine and is where many of the walks in Mount Tamborine National Park start from. It is a pretty little town centred on one main street which has a few cafes and takeaways, a few shops, a post office and Clancy's Irish Pub which also has a restaurant. There are a few wineries offering free tastings, a cheese factory and The Tamborine Mountain Distillery which is a boutique distillery that makes its own liquers and spirits. You can phone them on (07) 5545 3452 to find out about their tours. The Tamborine Glow-worm Caves are on Hartley Road and are open daily from 10am till 4pm. Eagle Heights is just east of North Tamborine and is incredibly touristy. It is home to the "Gallery Walk" shopping precinct which has lots of art and craft shops, lots of cafes and wineries offering free tastings, a cheese company and a couple of fudge shops. Fudge Heaven is a family run place on the Gallery Walk and they have won awards for Best Fudge in Australia. They have lots of different flavours some of which are "adults only" due to the alcohol in them and they do special offers for the more you buy. Mountain Tamborine AccommodationThe only place that camping is allowed in the national park is Tamborine Caravan and Camping at Thunderbird Park which is located on Tamborine Mountain Road near Cedar Creek Falls Road. The Bearded Dragon Country Lodge is the only backpackers accommodation in Tamborine Mountain. It has 5 bed dorms and ensuite double and twin rooms all at cheap prices. It is located down the hill from the national park in beautiful country surroundings. There is lots of accommodation available ranging from a couple of motels, some B&BS and a few cottages. The Mount Tamborine Motel is mentioned above and the other motel is the Tall Trees Motel which is just opposite the Curtis Falls. It has reasonable rooms with good midweek rates but which increase by a whopping 50% for Saturday nights. The visitors centre can provide you with information about other accommodation in the area. If you have any time to spare while you are in the area I would recommend a visit to Canungra, a beautiful little town not far from Tamborine Mountain. We often stop at the Outpost Cafe there for one of their marvellous home pies when in the area and we actually stayed there because it was easier to find cheap accommodation at short notice.
