South Bank Restaurants BrisbaneThere are lots of South Bank restaurants to choose from. South Bank is one of the main restaurant areas in Brisbane and has something for everyone. This is not a comprehensive guide and we have only written up restaurants and cafes we have actually eaten in. Ahmet's - Grey Street and Little Stanley Street Ahmet's is a Turkish Restaurant which has doors on both Grey and Little Stanley Street and has an outdoor seating area on Little Stanley Street. It gets very busy at weekends so it's a good idea to book if you are going on a Friday or Saturday. On Saturdays there is a belly dancer who moves around the restaurant dancing at the tables. For starters I would recommend some dips with the Turkish Bread which is really light and tasty. Then for the main course the casseroles are very good especially the chick peas and lamb one. They look quite small but are actually very filling and they come with a bowl of rice. The char-grilled meat dishes are also very good and come with rice and salad. I wouldn't recommend the pide which is like a pizza but not as tasty. They have another restaurant on the main street in Bulimba. Ginga Japanese Restaurant - Little Stanley Street This Japanese Restaurant has lovely friendly waitressess who will give you help explaining things that you haven't come across before. They have an outdoor eating area as well as an indoor area which has snugs/booths at the back. The food is excellent with a huge range of sashimi, sushi and sushi rolls and plenty of hot dishes if you don't really fancy sushi. Both the sushi and the sashimi platters are great for anyone who wants to try a range of these dishes and the Chicken Terriyaki is very tasty. Again it is probably a good idea to book a table at weekends. Toscani's - Grey Street This Italian restaurant isn't the best I've ever eaten at. The bruschetta is very good as is the pasta and sauce but when we had the Fettucini Marinera I felt that the seafood in it wasn't of a real quality. I also don't think that the service is that great. Wang Dynasty - Clem Jones Promenade This Chinese Restaurant is right on the river at the QPAC end of South Bank and has both inside and outside tables with great views of the river and the CBD especially at night when it is all lit up. The food is very good and they have a good range of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian dishes all of which are a good size helping. The Thai green curry is very nice and very spicy but a little too sweet for our taste but the Beef with Vegetables suited us very well. They also specialise in Sang Chow Bao which is minced pork wrapped in Lettuce leaves and you should definitely try it if you haven't done so before. There is such a wide range of starters that if you were in a group you could decide to eat tapas style and only have starters. We love the Satay Skewers, the Spring Rolls and the Dim Sim to name a few. Chez Layla - The Boardwalk This is a Lebanese Restaurant on the river on the Boardwalk at the Goodwill Bridge end of South Bank. It has lots of tables outside and is a wonderful place to sit. You can see the CityCats and ferries on the river and you get a great view of the CBD lit up at night. The food here is very nice and very similar to Greek food with many dishes coming with hoummos and tabouli which is like a crispy parsley salad. The mixed platter is a great way to try a little of various dishes especially if you have neve tried Lebanese food before. You order at the bar and then the food is brought to your table when it is ready. You can also eat indoors but there are very few tables and it has a bit of a cafe feel to it. Cafe Lagoonas - Little Stanley Street Behind City Beach This cafe is above the shops behind City Beach and has a large outside eating area with lovely views over the "beach" and the Brisbane river with the CBD in the background. It is open for breakfast and lunch but closes in the evenings. They do very nice fresh sandwiches served on paninis, bagels, wraps or focacia, a selection of pies and sausage rolls, fish and chips and a Big Breakfast. You will find many other South Bank restaurants along Grey Street which is the main street running through South Bank and Little Stanley Street which is parallel and one street nearer to the Brisbane River. There are also two areas of South Bank Restaurants and cafes in the actual Parklands, one near the Suncorp Piazza which is called Central Cafes and the other which is further along towards the Goodwill Bridge which is called the Arbour View Cafes. In these two areas you'll find Subway, Fish and Chips, Ice Cream and many other small cafes and restaurants. You will also come across lots of Ibis birds around these cafes just waiting for any food that is thrown to them although there are lots of signs saying that you shouldn't feed them.
