Paddington Restaurants and Cafes Brisbane

Most Paddington restaurants and cafes are to be found on Caxton Street, Given Terrace and Latrobe Street. This is not a comprehensive guide to restaurants in this area but rather some information on restaurants we have eaten in and enjoyed starting at the Petrie Terrace end and working towards Given Terrace.

The Tibetan Kitchen - 216 Petrie Terrace
Although not strictly in Paddington the Tibetan Kitchen is just round the corner from Caxton Street. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Brisbane and I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone. The MoMos for starters are fantastic. They are similar to Dim Sum and are so tasty. The menu has lots of main courses to choose from and it is difficult to recommend one more than others as everything we've eaten there has been great. All of the dishes are well explained on the menu and you can choose to have most of them mild. medium or hot. The hot is not too hot. The restaurant is run by Tibetans and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. There is another Tibetan Kitchen in Fortitude Valley at 454 Brunswick Street.

Caxton Hotel Char Grill - Caxton Street
This restaurant is downstairs in the Caxton Hotel and is a large place with seating inside and on an outside terrace. It specialises in Char Grill and do excellent steaks which you can have with chips or baked potato and a side salad. The Catch of the Day is also very good and the pasta dish which changes regularly was great when I had it. The Beer Battered Chips are wonderful.  They offer some very good midweek deals such as 2 for the price of 1 on Tuesdays and a free dessert or starter with a main course on Wednesdays. It does tend to be very busy some nights especially Tuesdays and weekends so it is a good idea to book a table in advance.

The Paddo Tavern - 186 Given Terrace
The Paddo is a large pub with a restaurant attached to it. At lunchtime the pubs does great lunchtime roast dinner for only AU$5.95 when you buy a drink. It's a great deal as you get a couple of different meats and plenty of vegetables and roast potatoes. They also do some good cheap food options before matches in the Suncorp Stadium like barbecued burgers, chicken and snags (sausages). If you are eating from the a la carte menu you can eat in the restaurant which is a large place with lots of light or in the bar area or outside on the large terrace. They also do a cheap buffet breakfast option at weekends.

Kookaburra Cafe - 280 Given Terrace
From the outside the Kookaburra Cafe doesn't look much but the food is excellent. It's in an Old Queenslander house and has a large outdoor eating area at the back. The tables that are inside are in various small rooms and there's a very cosy atmosphere to it. The pizzas are fantastic and are famous for being very big but we have always managed to finish ours, maybe because they taste so good. They also serve a range of pasta dishes and some other main courses such as steak, ribs and fish and chips to mention just a few. This place is very popular so it is a good idea to book in advance especially at the weekends. They are open for lunch and dinner every day.

There are lots of other Paddington restaurants on both Caxton Street and Given Terrace. On Caxton Street you'll find a variety of restaurants such as the Caxton Thai, the Red Lantern Chinese Restaurant and the Casablanca Brasserie. The restaurant in the Gambaro is a large place with eating areas both inside and out and it specialises in seafood with dishes such as Mud Crab, Green Lobster and the famous Moreton Bay Bugs.

If you are looking for some fast food after a match at the Suncorp Stadium there is a wonderful kebab shop on Caxton Street which we have eaten in often and there is a fish and chip shop too.

On Given Terrace you will find lots of restaurants and cafes ranging from Indian to French to Italian to Turkish.
