Mount Tamborine National ParkMount Tamborine National Park is a beautiful national park located on the Tamborine Mountain Plateau about 80km south of Brisbane and just 45km from the Gold Coast. It has fourteen sections many of which sit on the escarpment which looks down on the Gold Coast and six of which you can walk in. The Tamborine Mountain Visitor Information Centre can be found in North Tamborine and is open from 10.30am till 3.30pm daily. The people there are extremely friendly and helpful and can give you plenty of information about walks in the park and accommodation in each of the townships which are Mount Tamborine, North Tamborine and Eagle Heights. Walks in Mount Tamborine National ParkTamborine National Park is a wonderful place to spend a weekend or even just a day. There are lots of walks ranging from the 500m return Cedar Creek Falls track which takes about 20 minutes to the Palm Grove Rainforest Circuit which is a 2.6km circuit and takes about an hour. You can get information on all the tracks from the visitors centre mentioned above.A couple of our favourite walks are the Witches Falls Circuit, the Witches Falls Chase Track and the Sandy Creek Circuit. The Witches Falls Circuit and Witches Falls Chase Track start from the picnic area near the Rotary Lookout on Main Western Road in North Tamborine. The walk to the falls is through rainforest as far as the lookout which gives a view of the falls and then the Chase Track continues along the edge of the escarpment to Witches Chase where you can decide whether to turn round and go back the same way or walk back through North Tamborine. Allow around 2 hours for the whole walk or 1 hour to do only the Witches Falls Circuit. The Sandy Creek Circuit is in the Knoll Section of the park which is just to the north of North Tamborine along Main Street and then Knoll Road. There is a picnic area there with tables and BBQs and from the lookout you can see as far as Brisbane. The walk is straight forward and is through some lovely forest and you get a great view of the Cameron Falls from the lookout halfway. The best time to visit Tamborine National Park is from May to November as this is when it is driest but it can be quite cold in the winter months so you should take warm clothing. Mountain Tamborine can be accessed from the north via Beenleigh and then Tamborine Village or via the Pacific Highway and then the Oxenford-Tamborine Road. From the Gold Coast it can be accessed via the Pacific Highway and then take the Nerang-Beaudesert Road and at Canungra take the Mount Tamborine Road for 4km.
