Fortitude Valley Restaurants BrisbaneMany Fortitude Valley restaurants and cafes are to be found around Brunswick Street Mall, China Town Mall, Wickham Street and Brunswick Street as it runs in to New Farm. This is not a comprehensive guide and we have written up only restaurants and cafes that we have actually eaten in. The Elephant and Wheelbarrow - 230 Wickham Street Located under the backpackers of the same name The Elephant and Wheelbarrow is one of very few traditional English/British pubs. They do very good cheap meal deals on Mondays to Wednesdays with Spaghetti and Meatballs on Mondays, Curry on Tuesdays and Steak on Wednesdays all of which are good quality. They also have all the old British pub grub favourites like Bangers and Mash and Steak Pie. Asian Fusion - Wickham Street This restaurant specialises in Vietnamese and Chinese food. We really enjoyed the starters that we ate there especially the dim sum and the spring rolls but like a lot of the Chinese food in Brisbane we found the main courses to be too sweet for us. Perhaps that is because of the dishes we ordered. This restaurant is BYO and there is a bottle shop next to the Elephant and Wheelbarrow just across the road from the restaurant. Enjoy Inn - Wickham Street on the corner of China Town Mall This is a great little Chinese restaurant which specialises in barbecued seafood but also has a wide range of other dishes. We had our first experience of Sang Chow Bao in this restaurant which is minced pork served in lettuce leaves. It can be a bit messy but is absolutely delicious and you must try it if you eat here. They have a wide range of main courses and I can't recommend one more that another but again we found some dishes to be very sweet. King of King's Seafood - 175 Wickham Street on the corner of China Town Mall This large Chinese restaurant specialises in barbecue food but also do very good yum cha at weekends. Yum Cha is more or less what we would call Dim Sum in UK and the USA but while Dim Sum is the small portions of food Yum Cha covers the whole eating experience. It's most common to eat this way for lunch rather than dinner at night. They also have an extensive a la carte menu to choose from. Brunswick Street Mall is home to many cafes and small restaurants and all seem to be very popular. There is a craft market in the Mall at weekends and most of the cafes are a great place to sit and soak up the atmosphere and watch the world go by. The Royal George Hotel - Brunswick Street Mall The Royal George Hotel do some great cheap food options at lunchtimes from Monday to Friday and from Sunday to Thursday from 6pm. At the time of writing Monday is Mexicana night, Tuesday is Hoisin Beef and Tandoori Chicken night, Wednesday and Sunday are Rump Steak and Chips or Fish and Chips nights and Thursday is cheap bowls of pasta with 3 options. The only condition is that you buy a drink but that is really no hardship. The food is very good and the portions are a very good size considering how cheap they are. They also have a standard a la carte menu which features all the old favourites that most pub menus in Australia have on them. You can sit outside and eat or sit in one of the indoor dining areas. You have to order at the bar and then the food is delivered to your table. Bank - Brunswick Street Mall Bank is opposite the RGH and specialises in wood-fired pizzas which are very good. It's quite a small place with only a few tables inside but you can sit on the terrace of the RGH and have your pizza delivered to you there. They do a cheap deal on Wednesdays and Thursday which is very good value. Fatboys Restaurant - Brunswick Street Mall Fatboys Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is a big favourite for breakfast at the weekend probably because it is such good value. They are open 24 hours on Thursday till Saturday so it's a great place to grab some breakfast on the way home from a night out. They have lots of tables outside which is a great place to sit and watch the world go by and plenty inside too. They specialise in pizza and Italian food in general and are have a bar with live music some nights. Pho - Brunswick Street Mall This is part of a chain specialising in Vietnamese Pho, or noodle soup, and all of the food is very good. The Pho is a broth style soup with broad, flat noodles and the meat of your choice. It also usually has some bean sprouts and some green leaves in it. They have plenty of other dishes on the menu and their spring rolls are particularly good. Return from Fortitude Valley Restaurants to Brisbane Restaurants. |
