Coolangatta Restaurants and Bars

There is a good range of Coolangatta Restaurants to choose from and while there are not that many Coolangatta Bars the Coolangatta Hotel is a great spot to have a drink and enjoy the live music that is on from Thursdays to Sundays.

The two main areas to find Coolangatta restaurants and cafes are on Griffiths Street and along the front on Marine Parade.

On Griffiths Street the Scooterini Cafe has a very interesting breakfast and lunch menu and actually offers the breakfast menu all day.  If you are there for breakfast try the pancakes and for lunch the veggie burger is great or try one of the paninis or Turkish bread melts. Markwell's Cafe also on Griffiths Street also has an interesting menu and does a great savoury mince on toast for breakfast.

Restaurants on Griffiths Street include Fishermans Cove which offers good lunchtime set menu deals and has a great selection of fresh fish dishes, La Porchetta Italian restaurant next to Fishermans Cove and Montezuma's Mexican restaurant which offers a great range of Mexican food all at a reasonable price. If you're not sure what to order try the Beef or the Chicken Specials which have a taco, an enchilada, a bowl of chilli and some rice.

Marine Parade has a range of cafes and restaurants and it is also where you can find McDonalds, Gloria Jeans and Baskin Robbins if you are so inclined. There is the Mumtaj Indian restaurant, the Aztec Coolangatta Mexican restaurant is upstairs and has a balcony and the Thai Ruby Thai restaurant.

The Surf Clubs all serve food and I would recommend the Coolangatta Surf Club both for location and for excellent food. The Cottage Pie and Steak and Kidney Pie are both very good and if you are feeling particularly hungry try the Lamb Shanks and Mash potatoes. The Rainbow Beach Surf Club does very good and big Chicken Parmigiana and on Wednesday nights the Green Mount SLSC does a lamb, jazz and shiraz night which can be good fun.

There is not a huge range of bars in Coolangatta but there is enough choice to make sure you'll find something you like.

My favourite is the Coolangatta Hotel on Marine Parade which has a nice outdoor terrace and two indoor bars. They have live music on from Wednesday to Sunday most weeks in the main bar and a DJ in Cuddys from Thursday to Sunday. They also host regular gigs that you have to pay for. The Crave Restaurant in the Coolangatta Hotel is a fairly informal place and offers all the old favourites. You can find more information about who is on when on their website.

The Coolangatta Sands Hotel is located on the corner of Griffiths Street and they have a sports bar with a pool table. It is a big place and tends to be home to a younger crowd than the Coolangatta Hotel perhaps because it has a backpackers upstairs.

The Calypso on Griffiths Street is also an option and they have a nightclub upstairs which is only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The Surf Clubs all have balconies overlooking the sea and the Rainbow Bay club is a great place to have an evening beer while watching the surfers below and the sunset over the hills. There is often live music on in one or other of these clubs.

Another popular spot is the Twin Towers RSL Club on the corner of Griffiths Street and Wharf Street which has five bars some with open air balconies, a bistro and a large Pokies room. They also have daily entertainment, shows and a children's club.
