Coolangatta Accommodation

From Caravan Parks to Luxury Apartments

As with most of the beach resorts in Australia there is plenty of Coolangatta Accommodation ranging from caravan parks to luxury apartments.

There is only one caravan park in Cooloangatta which can be found near the airport in Kirra. It has powered and unpowered sites and quite a few cabins which range in price depending on the size of them and it also has backpacker accommodation. Amongst its facilities are a camp kitchen, volleyball court and a lovely pool where you can lie and relax and it is only a short distance from Kirra beach.

There are a few caravan parks in Tweed Heads along the banks of the Terranora Broadwater such as the Boyds Bay Holiday Park which is the closest to town. It is situated right on the water and has its own boat ramp. It is a lovely open park with lots of powered sites and some unpowered sites and plenty of cabins. A couple of kilometres further from the town along the river is the Colonial Tweed Caravan Park which is in a beautiful, peaceful spot right on the water. It has plenty of powered sites and cabins but not too many tent sites. The Finigal Holiday Park is next to the Giants Causeway on Fingal Head in a very peaceful setting but is a bit inconvenient if you want to spend time in the town.

There are also the Homestead Caravan Park and the Hacienda Caravan Park to the south on the Tweed River but these are right on the Pacific Highway.

Coolangatta is not a big backpackers' destination but there are a couple of options. The Coolangatta YHA at 230 Coolangatta Rd near the airport is a bit of a trek into town but is very near Kirra Beach making it a great option for surfers. It has 4 and 6 bed dorm rooms and some twin and double rooms, bike hire, BBQ nights and they offer free courtesy pickup from the bus station in Coolangatta.

The other backpackers is the relativly new Sands Hotel on the corner of Griffiths Street and Mclean Street which is right in the centre of the town. It is probably the best choice if you are looking to party in any form. There are 4 and 8 bed dormitories, a lovely balcony which has views of Kirra Beach, a clean kitchen and an internet cafe with wifi. Downstairs there is a bar with pool table and bistro and it is close to the beach and CBD.

Coolangatta Apartments

If you are looking for an apartment there are plenty to choose from but make sure you do book in advance as it can get fully booked especially during school holidays. One placed we loved was Eden Tower which offers very good value fully contained and well equipped apartments at 5 Ward St. on Rainbow beach and is run by a very friendly couple.

Other apartments which we would recommend include the Mantra Beach Resort which is right on the front with balconies offering great sea views and has a pool, tennis court, gym and BBQ. The Oaks Calypso Plaza Suites Coolangatta is well located on Griffith Street in the centre of town just one street back from the beach and has a lovely pool, a gym and a games room. The Outrigger Twin Towns Resort Coolangatta is a bit more expensive but has great facilities and an excellent restaurant. There are two pools, two tennis court, a gym and a BBQ area and a range of bars and eating options.

The 3* Greenmount Beach Resort is a bit rundown but is one of the cheaper places in town and is clean.

The Visitors Information Centre is a booking agency for much of the Coolangatta Accommodation and you can contact them by email at infocoolangatta@gctourism.com.

There are also a few cheapish motels along Wharf Street in Tweed Heads such as the Tweed Harbour Motor Inn which you can contact on 1800 110 499 and the Las Vegas Motor Inn contactable at 1800 807 351.
