Byron Bay Restaurantsand CafesThere is a wide range of Byron Bay restaurants and cafes with something to suit all budgets and there are plenty of takeaway food options too. One of our favourite Byron Bay restaurants is Bo's on Jonson Street. It is a good restaurant with a lovely outdoor seating area set back from the street. They do a range of fish and meat dishes and we particularly like the deep fried brie and the mushrooms as starters and the snapper and the gnocchi are delicious as main courses. There is a Hog's Breath Cafe upstairs on Jonson Street which specialises in Prime Rib Steak but has many other great meat options. The Boss Hogs mushrooms and the potato skins are great starters but beware because they are big dishes. For main course the ribs are excellent as is the mushroom chicken, the rib steak and just about everything else they offer. It has a nice balcony but the indoor area has a bit of a bare feeling to it. We have eaten in many Hog's Breath cafes and never had a bad meal. Rae's on Watego's is out of town in Cape Byron park and is one of the fanciest and priciest of Byron Bay restaurants. It has a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea where you can eat and enjoy the sea views at the same time and a lovely dining room for when it's too cold to dine outside. The menu is a mix of Thai and modern Australian cuisine with the dishes all being special and fairly unique. They open for lunch and dinner during the summer and dinner only during the winter and it is advisable to book especially at weekends and during holidays. Fishhead Seafood Restaurant at 1 Jonson Street is a good seafood option. It has a lovely deck overlooking the sea and the beach. They also do very good takeaway fish and chips which you can eat sitting on the grass looking at the sea. The Balcony Bar and Restaurant on the corner of Lawson and Jonson Streets serves breakfast lunch and dinner along with late night tapas to go with their cocktails. It has a great balcony where you can sit and relax and watch the world go by. The Great Northern Hotel on the corner of Byron and Jonson Streets has a bistro which does great pizzas and a range of other typical dishes all at a reasonable price. The Pass Cafe at Pass beach is open for breakfast and lunch and is a great place to stop if you are walking up to the lighthouse. Earth and Sea Pizza and Pasta on Lawson Street offer a wide range of interesting and unusual pizzas in cafes surroundings. There are lots of other Byron Bay restaurants and cafes on Jonson Street and Bay Lane at the beach end of town but there are too many to name them all.
