The Brisbane Airtrain train service runs between Robina on the Gold Coast and Brisbane airport, via Brisbane city, with different stops for the domestic and international terminals. Although run by a different operator the Airtrain is part of the Translink system which is the public transport system covering south-east Queensland and it connects with all of the Translink train routes.
Airtrain Times and Routes
The Brisbane Airtrain runs very regularly with trains at least once every half-hour and every 15 minutes during peak hours.
It takes about 20 minutes from Brisbane Central Station to the international terminal which is a lot faster than getting a taxi which would take at least 30 minutes and a lot more when there is traffic. In the city centre you can catch this train at Southbank, South Brisbane, Roma Street, Central Station, Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills which covers most areas where tourists stay in Brisbane. The first train leaves from Roma Street at 5.00am during the week and 5.07am at weekends. The last train leaves the airport at 10pm.
From Robina the Airtrain takes 1 hour 40 minutes to the international terminal. On the Gold Coast the train starts at Robina and stops at Nerang, Helensvale and Coomera so you need to get a bus to or from any of the resorts on the coast. The first train leaves at4.39am during the week and 5.53am at weekends and the last one at around 8pm. The last train leaves the airport at 10pm.
You can buy tickets for the Airtrain at any Queensland Rail station but if you buy them there you will have to pay full price. You can buy them from some newspaper stalls and some Brisbane backpackers hostels for a small discount and if you buy them online on the Brisbane Airtrain website you get a 10% discount.
If there are more than three of you travelling between Brisbane CBD and the airport you might find it a little cheaper to get a taxi but it will probably take more time.
If you have a translink Go Card you can use that on the Airtrain. To find out more about this card visit our Translink Brisbane page.
